Where to eat empanadas on the French Riviera

TJBy the Timenjoy newsroom · Updated October 2026

The Argentinian empanada has settled on the Riviera, with a real gap between places that make them by hand and those that simply reheat them. The half-puff pastry is the tell.

Four addresses from Nice to Cannes, from takeaway counter to full restaurant. Our advice everywhere: order three different fillings rather than three of the same.

The selection

El Almacen
1

El Almacen

Handmade Argentinian empanadas with a half-puff pastry that changes everything against factory versions, in both savoury and sweet fillings. The real draw is the choice: order several and build your own selection. Two locations in Nice.

Chez Matias

Chez Matias

The new address to know in Antibes, with generous Argentinian fillings and a wider range than most: veal, curried chicken, caprese, vegetables and sweet versions. Order three different fillings rather than three of the same.

Fervor

Fervor

Not a takeaway counter but a full restaurant, and the place to go in Cannes if you want empanadas with the atmosphere around them. The menu travels through South America: empanadas, ceviches, tacos, grilled meats and cocktails.

Quilombo

Quilombo

A few metres from the Port of Nice, an Argentinian bistro rather than a counter. Empanadas come in pairs, including a hand-cut beef version that stands apart from the usual minced fillings. Save room for the parrilla grill.

Frequently asked questions

Where do you find empanadas on the French Riviera?
El Almacén, Chez Matias, Fervor and Quilombo serve them all year between Nice and the rest of the department. These are Argentinian and Latin American kitchens, not stopgap counters.
When do you eat an empanada?
It is a quick lunch or an aperitivo format. Two or three make a light meal, which turns it into a practical alternative to a sandwich.
How is this selection made?
Every place on this list has been visited by the newsroom before it made the cut. We do not republish directories and we do not sell places in the ranking. The list is reviewed at every site update, and a place that closes or slips is taken out.
