Where to eat Nicois food in Nice

TJBy the Timenjoy newsroom · Updated October 2026

Nicois cooking is advertised on half the boards in the old town and seldom actually made on the premises. The four houses on this page share no neighbourhood and no style, but the same dishes come out of all four kitchens: stuffed vegetables, ravioli in beef daube, pissaladiere, courgette-flower fritters, panisses, tripe Nicoise.

Two of them are well away from the centre, up at Gairaut and in Nice Nord, and they are neighbourhood places rather than passing trade. The other two are in the old town, a few streets apart.

Frequently asked questions

Which Nicois dishes should you try?
Stuffed vegetables, ravioli in beef daube, pissaladiere, courgette-flower fritters, panisses and tripe Nicoise. All four places serve some or all of them, made in house.
Where can you eat Nicois food outside the old town?
L'Autobus, up at Gairaut, where it has been going for over a century, and La Ratapignata in Nice Nord. Both are neighbourhood kitchens, away from the streets with translated menus.
Who cooks at La Merenda?
Dominique Le Stanc, formerly head chef at the Negresco. The room is small, the menu short, and it is built around the market.
